My name’s Rose Tyler. I'm just one of those typical girls; I go to school (my last year in fact!) I still live with my mother Jackie (living with mothers at this age is quite typical in my opinion). Sadly my dad died when I was very young. He was in a car accident, which is one of the reasons why I still live with my mum, so she isn’t alone and can try to forget about the grief. I draw for fun; I’ve had a couple of things in the art gallery. One thing that you must know is that I LOVE to read.  When I'm not studying/doing school work, I have my head stuck in a book. Okay I lied; I don't always have my head stuck in a book. I have to work at a shop not too far from where I live, (just a couple of blocks away, I don't live with my mother for free you know!)

At the moment my life kind of sucks, just as I was about to have my last year at school, my mum made me change schools. But I guess it was for the best, I didn't really have any friends (except for a girl named Keisha, but we slowly began to fade away from each other coming towards senior year). I'm not very sociable... So mum decided to send me to some school called Gallifrey High, (strange name to me, but I don't judge). I went there on an open day It was a fairly small school and I quickly learned where to go, and met some of the teachers who seemed nice.

You may or may not be wondering what I look like? Well I'm about 5ft7” blond, I guess you can say I'm pretty (I really don't think I am, but others say so anyway).

Enough about that let's just get on with the story.

"Rose! Time to get up sweetheart, you start at your new school today, don't want to be late on the first day! Better to make a good impression!" I could hear my mum calling from down stairs; she had a voice as loud as an elephant.
I looked at the time, 6:00am, great. I lie on my back for a short moment and rub my face getting rid of any sleep from my eyes. "Just give a few more minutes!" I yell back

*~*

I walk down stairs to find my mum cooking breakfast (she's an amazing cook). Gallifrey High has quite a formal uniform: blue blazer, white shirt, red tie, girls wear a navy blue skirt with stockings while the boys (according to the school manual)  wear the same as girls,  except they wear suited trousers, the same colour as the blazers. Also, it being a very small school, no more than 50 students go there, from form 3 to form 7

"Morning Rose, I made you a cup of tea and made your favourite for breakfast." My favourite is pancakes with bacon. Mum, she really loves to  spoil me crazy on 'special occasions' like this. "Thanks mum." I eat quickly, feeling somewhat excited going to a new school.
"I'm going to drive you to school, that okay Hun?" Mum asked, sounding almost desperate. I laughed at her tone. "S’fine mum."

As we got in the car mum asked me.
"Got your books?"
"Yes." I replied.
"Pens, pencils all that stuff?"
"Yes." I replied again.
"Uniform all nice and tidy?"
"Yes!" I replied again more irritated.
"Are you ready?"
"YES! Just go already!" I gave her a little push on the shoulder.
We finally left.

We pulled up in the car park. Now feeling extremely nervous I slowly got out of the car.
"Hey, have a good day sweetheart; you might want to go to the principal’s office first, just to see where you need to go."
"Okay mum, love you." I gave mum a quick kiss on the check through the open car window. She grabbed my arm to get my attention. "Hey, make some friends, yea?" Mum gave me a reassuring smile before letting me go.
"Bye mum." I quickly ran off.

"Miss Tyler." The Principle Miss Moffatt walked up to me.
"Y-yes Miss Moffatt." I shook her hand nervously. When I first came I embarrassed myself. I asked her if she was one of the students, but of course it turned out she was the Principal. She only laughed, and told me she is often mistaken for a student because of her young age.
She smiled. "Try not to be scared Rose, you'll be fine." She handed me a time table for my subjects and gave me my locker key. "Have good day."

*~*
I walked the corridors, scanning the numbers on the lockers trying to find mine. Can't be that hard, not many people at this school.
I continued the search my locker and  eventually found what I presumed was my locker A boy, tall, with thick brown hair that stuck up more than a porcupine was leaning on it, singing '500 miles' by The Proclaimers. I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention - he looked straight at me. Amber brown eyes.
"S'cuse me, sorry to bother you, but I think that's my locker you're leaning on, I'd like to open it. Please" I said trying my very best tying  not to sound nervous, (which failed). He just continued to look at me.
"Are you alright?"
"Y-yea, I'm fine, s-sorry, here's your locker." He hesitated and moved away. Scottish accent, I thought.
"Thanks."
"What's your name?  Haven't seen you around here before.”
"Rose, Rose Tyler." I answered. He smiled. "Beautiful name, like the flower."
I laughed, "Yep, like the flower, what's yours?" I asked shutting my locker.
He turned his head away, (still smiling,) from me for a short moment, "David, David John Doctor."
"Doctor?"
"Yes, Doctor."
"I like it." I replied.
"Want to walk to class with me? Even if you say no, I'm going to ask again. You might as well take the offer."
Why does he make me smile so much? "Okay sure.”
*~*
First class was math class, (which, by the way, I hate, especially Algebra). Our teacher is Mr McCoy; he wears a sleeveless cardigan with question marks all over it, a hat (yes even inside) and 0ver the top glazed black shoes.  Sitting in the corner of his desk is a black umbrella with a question mark handle.  What's up with all the question marks? I don't know...
David sat by me. Sometimes, I swear he, (when I’m not looking) sneaks a peak at me every now and again, but itI doesn't bother me. He leaned over and whispered, "w-w-want t-t-to come up to the library with me at lunch break?" His voice sounded very shaky. When I first came here to have a look at the school, they had a pretty big library for a small school, though I wasn't allowed to be up there for very long because it was a study period. I smiled. "Yes, of course." David smiled back at me.
At that moment the bell rang for the next class.  David and I had different classes.  I went to art and he went to music.
"See you later" he said.
"Not if I see you first" I said pointing a finger at him.

Art class was pretty smooth, the teacher Mr McGann is very kind. He has longish brown hair that curls at the front. He helped me to catch up with the rest of the class. A girl named Clara and a boy named Matt (who happened to be Clara's boyfriend), sat by me.
"Do you like it here?" Clara asked not looking up from her book. I struggled for an answer. "Uhmmm, well, it's different, everyone seems so kind and it's a small school, so that's nice." Clara half smiled. "Well, almost everyone." Clara scanned across the room and looked at another girl. I recognised her, she was in my math class, Reinette is her name, if I recall.
"Before you came, I was the 'new girl.' David, he was always the one who showed everyone around and at the time he was her boyfriend and she was quite possessive of him.  After a while he broke up with her, I don’t know the whole story.  She thought the reason why he broke up with her was because of me, so she threatened me. Not only that, her ‘group’ pushed me up against the lockers and threw me to the ground. But then this guy," she held Matt’s hand, "He, I guess you could say 'fought her off.' She doesn’t comes near me anymore and I don’t get bullied anymore but I am still wary of her." Clara looked back at me, “I’m just saying - you may want to stay away from David.  Reinette, even after all these years, still gets jealous of girls who are around him. I may have just met you but I’d like to be sure none of that happens to you.  I urge you to stay away from him.” Clara said stiffly. I shook my head, "No. I just met David, and if he has anything he needs to say to me about Reinette, he’ll tell me.”
~~~~~~~
Later in the day after another class, I went up to the library, and found David sitting on a bunch of bean-bags in a corner. He caught my eye and waved at me to come over. 'But what about what Clara said' I thought. 'No, ignore that.' I walked towards David and he moved over to let me sit down beside him. He was wearing glasses; maybe he only needs them to read. David's eyes widened when he saw my book 'The Fault in Our Stars.'
"Y-you have that book! I haven't read it yet and I've been waiting for so long to read it. Please! Can I borrow it, promise I'll read it all tonight and bring it back to you tomorrow! Please, please!" He begged, clapping his hands together and giving me puppy eyes. I hate to admit it but damn it that was cute. I laughed. "Here," I handed him the book - tears of joy filled his eyes. "Thank you, thank you!" he exclaimed. David went to hug me, but then pulled away.
“You should text me when you finish reading it." I handed him my phone and he put in his contact details.
"You put yours in mine, so you know who's actually texting you." David laughed and gave me his phone so I could put my contact details in.
"You'll love this book David, but-" he put his hand over my mouth to cut me off. "Don't. Tell. Me. Anything." He moved his hand from my face but he didn't break eye contact. "You're very beautiful." I flinched at his comment, but I could tell he immediately regretted saying it. "S-sorry, I-I didn't mean...Oh geez, I'm so embarrassed!" He turned away from me.
"Hey, it's alright, it just slipped, yea?"
He nodded.
"Well should we just forget about it?"
He nodded slowly.
So we forgot.
Later, mum picked me up, even though I had insisted on walking home. As expected, her first question was how was school? So I told her about my day. Make any friends? So I told her about David, Matt and Clara.
Mum made my favourite for tea; homemade fish and chips. I told her more about David and how much we have in common - we both love reading, music and so much more.
"Well I'm going to bed.” I ended the conversation. "Night mum."
"Night Rose."
I lay in bed reading 'Under the Dome.' I had decided to read the book before I watched the television series. Reading to the end of a chapter my phone began to vibrate, it read 'David calling' I immediately picked it up and answered with 'Hello,'   He shouted. "What kind of ending is that!? It's- it's, so sad!! That’s not a good ending to a book"
I could tell he'd been crying. "I was going to warn you, but you put your hand over my mouth."
"Oh, yea, maybe I should've had more of a warning." He sniffed. There was a long pause.
"I heard the movie is coming out soon, want to go with me? I'll pay for tickets and popcorn. How about it?" 'Yes!' I immediately thought, I've been waiting for the movie for so long, so why not with him? But not wanting to sound too excited I replied, "Okay."
"Hey! Don’t use ‘okay’ like that!!" He growled.
"Sorry, sure I'd love to go with you." I said.  I could tell he was smiling, even though I couldn’t see it. “I’d better go before my mum hears me talking at this time of night.” I said.
“Yea, I’d better go too, good night Rose.”
“Good night David.” I yawned, about to press ‘end call’ before he said, “wait!”
“Yea?” I asked him.
“I’m so glad I got to meet you.”
“Me to.” We both giggled.
“Sorry, Goodnight, again.”
“S’alright, Good night David.”
‘You’re very beautiful.’ Those words were running through my head. The way he said it, did he really mean it? No. We only just met; it shouldn’t mean anything, should it?
That was my last thought before falling asleep.
I have worked pretty hard on writting this so I hoped you enjoyed it, and depending on how popular it gets, I'll upload the next chapter :)
